Plans are in the works to overhaul Moscow to be a more modern and welcoming city. And, surprisingly, a park close to the Kremlin is to be designed by an American architecture firm. Diller Scofidio + Renfro won an international competition to create a landscape concept for Zaryadye Park.

The park is meant to be "an open-air museum of sorts, where the permanent exhibition on show is the city itself," according to the competition's design brief. "The park will operate as an introduction to Moscow – a place to discover what the city is really about; the place where the city infects you with its energy."

Diller Scofidio & Renfro wins Moscow park competition

Diller Scofidio & Renfro has won an international       competition to create a major new park in the centre of Moscow. The project has      the potential to be one of Moscow’s largest and most significant public space development projects in recent decades, according to the organiser, Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design.
